Kia is adding a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) a version of both the Niro and Optima Sportswagon to its growing fleet of alternative-powertrain models soon to be available at Birchwood Kia.
The Niro PHEV is the company's most efficient car to feature an internal combustion engine. Both models will help to drive Kia towards its goal of a 25 percent reduction in fleet average CO2 emissions by 2020.
The new PHEV is avaliable in six colours and has amazing standard features including the latest connectivity and active safety technologies: Kia Connected Services featuring TomTom, wireless smartphone charging, autonomous emergency braking and lane-keep assist. It also offers Andriod Auto and Apple CarPlay which link smartphones to navigation, music, hands-free calls and texts and voice recognition services. The Niro PHEV is also fitted with Autonomous Emergancy Braking and Smart Cruise Control to assistthe driver in avoiding collisions with other vehicles and pedestrians.
The model feature the same 1.6-litre direct-injection petrol engine as the parallel hybrid, but in the plug-in model this is paired with a more powerful 44.5kW (60bhp) electric motor and is capable of travelling up to 36 miles on the energy stored in its batteries.
The new model has a longer all-electric range and can travel up to 38 miles in all-electric mode - the car even had lower CO2 emissions and better fuel economy than the plug-in hybrid saloon. As the Optima saloon PHEV, the Sportswagon PHEV combines a 154bhp 2.0 litre direct-injection petrol engine with a 50kW (67bhp) electric motor.
Distinguishing features of the PHEV are blue tinted headlights and chrome enhancements with metallic blue finish on the lower front air grille, the 'tiger-nose' main grille and the side sills. and being such a technologically advance addition to the Optima family, this new model is available with a comprehensive range of connectivity and advanced driver assistance features, including an 8.0inch touchscreen navigation system with European mapping, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a rear parking camera.

In keeping with every Kia, both of these models come with the company's seven year or 100,000 mile warranty, subject to certain wear and tear conditions. They are also available with Kia's Care-3 and Care-3 Plus servicing packages, offering retail customers fixed cost, inflation proof servicing for three or five years.
