The Naming of the New ŠKODA Karoq
Names don't just identify. They can evoke, inspire and trigger our imagination. They can go the core of who we are, where we come from and where we are going.
And given that ŠKODA models have a history of evocative names, we couldn't settle for anything less for our latest SUV. So packed with curiosity, ambition and some really warm clothes, ŠKODA headed off to the place that kickstarted their recent SUV journey – Kodiak island, Alaska.
The genesis of this name is as beautiful as it sounds. One of the native American tribes call an arrow (as found on the ŠKODA logo) ‘RUQ’. Another Alaskan tribe uses the word ‘KARAAQ’ to describe a car. An inventive blend of the two led to ‘KAROQ’.

Sharing the same striking design language as its stablemate the Kodiaq, the front and rear lights on the brand new compact SUV once again draw their inspiration from Bohemian crystal glass art. The ŠKODA Karoq boasts LED headlights and eight lighting strips giving a unique appearance. At the back, the taillights, also LED, form the trademark 'C' shape found on all ŠKODA vehicles.
The compact SUV measures 4,382 mm in length, is 1,841 mm wide, and 1,605 mm high. The increase in size benefits the passengers too with 69mm worth of kneeroom. The long wheelbase of 2,638 mm (all-wheel version: 2,630 mm) gives the ŠKODA KAROQ a comfortable stance on the road and provides an indication of the generously proportioned interior.
In its compact body, The ŠKODA Karoq encompasses everything typical of ŠKODA cars – the largest luggage compartment in its class, the highest degree of functionality, and a great many ‘Simply Clever’ solutions, all wrapped in gorgeous design.
