As the name might suggest, the Spaceback offers more room in the rear of the car with a longer wheelbase than that possessed by the standard Rapid. This provides more room for all travellers, while offering an impressive amount of cargo space too.
The Spaceback features an extended rear window and its longer wheelbase provides it with a more dynamic profile. Offering contrast to the body are black door handles and (electrically-adjustable and heated) door mirrors, while a chrome-trimmed radiator grille adds a touch of lustre. The Spaceback has five doors, offering easy access for each traveller. Daytime running lights are standard and ensure that the vehicle remains clearly visible while producing a distinctive light signature.
The Spaceback is more than 23 centimetres wider than the standard Rapid, providing even greater travelling comfort and convenience than before. A height-adjustable driver’s seat and a reach-and-rake-adjustable steering wheel enable you to find your optimal position. Power-assisted steering, electrically-operated front windows, a heated rear window and remote central locking all help to make the driving experience as simple as possible. Stowage space is provided by cup holders and door panels, while a 415-litre boot can be increased to a 1,381-litre capacity with the rear seats folded down.
The Spaceback features a choice of six engines. The entry-level S trim has two options: a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.4-litre diesel alternative, both with manual transmission offering 89bhp. The former is capable of up to 60.1mpg and produces a 107g/km CO2 emission figure. The latter can deliver as much as 78.5mpg and a CO2 emission figure as low as 95g/km. The SE Tech grade offers an automatic gearbox paired with a 1.2-litre petrol engine. This is capable of up to 60.1mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 109g/km. The Start-Stop system automatically switches off the engine whenever the car comes to a halt, thus reducing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.
Four loudspeakers are included, through which you can enjoy your music of choice. For cars fitted with petrol engines, a misfuelling prevention device ensures that expensive repairs are not needed as a result of trying to fill up the tank with diesel fuel. Driver aids include an Electronic Stability Programme, Anti-lock Braking System and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. Euro NCAP has awarded the Spaceback with a five-star rating. Passive safety features such as multiple airbags, seatbelt warning lights and ISOFIX child-seat fixtures are included. An alarm is also a standard inclusion, one that helps keep your vehicle secure.
