Kia PV5 cracks world record with 431 miles with a full payload!

Kia has once again demonstrated its innovation and engineering excellence with the Kia PV5, which recently achieved a record-breaking 431 miles on a single charge while carrying a full payload (690kg of cargo!). This remarkable feat sets a new benchmark for electric commercial vehicles, highlighting Kia’s commitment to delivering real-world efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.

During the official record run, the Kia PV5 covered an incredible 430.84 miles (693.38km) on public roads north of Frankfurt, Germany — all while transporting a full 690kg payload. The test route was carefully selected to mirror the real-world conditions of a working delivery van, including towns, villages, roundabouts, traffic lights, and regular traffic flow.

Behind the wheel were Christopher Nigemeier, a key member of the PV5 development team, and George Barrow, editor of Van Reviewer. Together, they completed 11 full laps of a 36.2-mile loop, finally coming to a stop during the 12th lap after more than 22 hours of continuous driving.

Despite carrying a full load, the Kia PV5 achieved an average efficiency of 6 miles per kWh from its 71.2kWh battery. This performance far exceeds its official WLTP range of 258 miles (tested without payload) — proving the PV5’s outstanding energy efficiency and durability in real working environments.

The record-breaking run also doubled the minimum Guinness World Record benchmark for the challenge, which was set at 300km (186 miles). Kia’s internal testing further revealed that for every additional 100kg of payload, range decreases by only around 1.5%, showcasing the PV5’s exceptional engineering and design balance.

The PV5 is part of Kia’s ambitious Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) strategy – a next-generation range of purpose-built electric vehicles designed to transform how businesses operate. The vehicle’s advanced electric drivetrain, optimized aerodynamics, and intelligent energy management system have all contributed to this exceptional achievement.

During testing, the PV5 maintained its impressive range while fully loaded, proving its capability for long-distance logistics and commercial use without compromise. Kia’s engineers developed the vehicle to meet the growing demand for versatile, eco-friendly transport solutions that can handle the challenges of everyday operations.

This milestone underscores Kia’s position as a leader in electric mobility, with the PV5 set to play a vital role in shaping the future of business fleets.
