At Birchwood Group, our environmental management focus is concentrated on the control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH), disposal of waste (including recycling), and minimising the impact of our services on our local environment and communities.
Birchwood Group is committed to complying with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations, and approved codes of practice within our industry.
We strive to:
- Protect the environment and minimise our contribution to pollution of land, water, and air.
- Ensure waste is managed and disposed of responsibly, seeking to minimise waste and use recycled materials where possible.
- Provide relevant training to ensure that our colleagues have an adequate awareness of their environmental responsibilities.
- Consider the environmental impact by undertaking proactive due diligence for pollution, planning, etc., when acquiring businesses.
- Ensure vehicles are serviced regularly to minimise their environmental impact and maximise their fuel efficiency.
- Encourage all colleagues to switch off lights and equipment when not in use.
- Ensure waste from sites is disposed of by authorised carriers in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Relevant hazardous waste production licences are in place where required, and waste transfer notes are logged.
- Update new and existing facilities with energy-saving technology where possible (e.g., light sensors, automatic PC shutdown, electric vehicle charging units).
- Source and use recycled paper wherever possible.
- Work with like-minded suppliers and contractors who also take steps to minimise their impact on the environment.
