Birchwood Team Completes 26-Mile RNLI Charity Walk in Memory of Jason Lavender

On Sunday, members of the Birchwood team took on an incredible 26-mile sponsored walk from Brighton Palace Pier to Eastbourne Pier in support of the RNLI and in memory of our friend and colleague, Jason Lavender.

Setting off at 8am from Brighton Palace Pier, the team made strong progress through the first 4–5 miles with no major mishaps — apart from Millie accidentally splitting a bag of Jelly Babies and leaving a sugary trail behind us! From there, we followed the stunning coastline beneath the cliffs before heading up onto the South Downs via East Saltdean, continuing out towards Southease Hill and down to the River Ouse.

The biggest challenge of the day came with the demanding climb towards Firle Beacon, where the real test of endurance began. Despite the tough ascent, spirits remained incredibly high, with everyone encouraging and pushing each other on every step of the way.

A well-earned lunch break in Alfriston gave the team a chance to recharge before beginning the final stretch towards Eastbourne. Tired legs, sore feet and plenty of blisters couldn’t dampen the atmosphere, especially as the sight of Eastbourne and the pier finally came into view along the seafront.

The positivity and team spirit throughout the entire walk was nothing short of amazing, and the team were welcomed back by a fantastic group of supporters as they celebrated raising over £2,600 for the RNLI’s lifesaving work.

Well done to everyone involved — not only for completing an epic challenge, but for coming together to celebrate a wonderful cause and honour the life of Jason Lavender.
