What is Motability?

The Motability Scheme is a government-backed initiative designed to help motorists with a disability retain their independence by exchanging their eligible mobility allowance for the lease on a brand new vehicle.

What is the Motability allowance for over 65?

What car can I get on PIP?

The Motability Scheme works in the same way with the Personal Independence Payment as it does with other benefits. As such, assuming you have at least 12 months remaining on your award, you will be able lease a vehicle from those included in the Ford, Kia, Mitsubishi and ŠKODA lineups with Birchwood Group.

Am I entitled to a Motability car?

Assuming that you’re currently in receipt of one the many mobility allowances provided by the government - such as Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA), Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of the Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP), War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement (WPMS), or the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) - and have at least 12 months’ award remaining, you should be eligible for the scheme.

Do I own the car at the end of the lease?

No. At the end of the leasing period - usually three years - you will return the vehicle to the dealership. You will then be able to lease a new vehicle through the scheme or, in some cases, even arrange for an extension of the agreement on your current vehicle.

How does Motability insurance work?

Insurance is provided by RSA Motability, and entitles you to include up to three drivers on your vehicle policy. All motorists should have a legally valid driving licence and the car should only be used for the benefit of the individual in receipt of the Motability Scheme vehicle.
