On the outside, the Rapid’s well-proportioned geometric lines create a substantial and defined body. The car feels more sizeable than its compact length of 4.50 metres, with eye-catching cloverleaf head and fog lights combining with the grille to add optical width to the front. At the back, the tailgate is large, and extends to the end of the rear window, while the wide taillights have a high-grade crystalline design and afford high visibility. The Visualizer tool allows you to customise the bodywork, from an array of metallic paintwork that includes Pacific Blue and Brilliant Silver.
The interior benefits from an upright dash top that creates space and width in the cabin. The Active trim is fitted with an elegant black/grey upholstery, while sporty Dynamic Red interior is available on the Ambition. The car’s ergonomics allow for both comfort and ease of use; front and rear seat anatomic moulding and well-sited controls ensure that journeys in the Rapid are a pleasure. With an interior width of 1.4 metres and deep foot wells which afford 64mm of knee room for passengers, families are generously catered for. The 550-litre boot can be extended to a vast 1,490-litres when the rear seats are reclined.
The Rapid can be paired with a solid choice of engines, which range from a 90bhp 1.2-litre petrol to a 116bhp 1.6-litre diesel option. The 1.4-litre diesel is the most fuel-efficient, generating 94g/km of CO2 emissions and returning an impressive 78.5mpg. Both the 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre options are available with manual and DSG automatic gearboxes.
Awarded a full five-star crash safety rating by Euro NCAP, the Rapid comes with six airbags, a child seat anchor and ESP. Škoda’s intuitive Front Assist Collison warning system can be added optionally to help avoid or mitigate accidents.
