This week the Sussex Bears were kind enough to visit our showrooms here in Eastbourne. firstly, we would like to say a massive thank you to Ricky and the team, for taking the time out of their active schedule to take us through quite the wheelchair basketball experience. Starting off the week by visiting us at our ford Eastbourne showroom, then to Kia, and following that our Škoda showroom. Ricky and the team bought along plenty of sports wheelchairs and a hoop. The team taught us the correct technique and gave us some insights into the game of wheelchair basketball. It was great not only for our members of staff to get involved but all our visitors were excited to take part, learning about the sport and the team's causes while getting to enjoy the unique experience.
The Bears were able to share some real team spirit! The visits to our Dealerships had seen all our staff getting involved from sales to services, understanding the all the work it takes to get to the level the Bears are currently at is staggering, and they just keep getting better….whilst we’re on the topic, help us support the team who are on the cusp of promotion into the Division 1, this would be a momentous achievement for the team and all of us supporters.
Truly Wheelchair basketball is a fast-paced and ferocious game, the fast-growing sport allows non-disabled and disabled people to compete together in its domestic leagues and competition, the sheer athletic ability it takes to simply control the sports wheelchair and simultaneously shoot into the hoop, let alone playing a fully competitive game.
Ricky taught us how to mauver in the chair and we got to learn how to properly shoot with some shot practicing, we even learned the correct technique to pick up the ball without stopping by holding the ball up against the moving wheel, It was inciteful and really good fun. It was great seeing the positivity everyone had in the team and how infectious it was to the whole dealership not only the staff but the visitors…. little Freddie came in with his parents and lit up when he saw that Ricky and the team had set up the hoop for everyone to have a go, he jumped at the opportunity as did many of us who truly delighted in the whole experience.
Aside from being the best Wheelchair Basketball team in the world, the team is also involved in numerous outreach programs such as the work they do with Inspire A Generation Initiative as discussed in our previous blog. Ricky and the team are regularly involved with awareness programs all around our community, it’s a real pleasure to have people this passionate and devoted to the cause. We would encourage anyone who visited us and all who champion these heroes in our community to show your support to our local team, search them up on social media and find out how you can get involved with the team.
