As Volunteers Week approaches, Birchwood Group is delighted to shine a spotlight on the fantastic individuals within our team who dedicate their time and efforts to volunteer. We take great pride in sharing the stories of three remarkable team members—Ryan, Katie, and Andy—who all make a positive impact in their chosen areas. Read on to find out more about the difference they make.
Ryan & RC Track Building - Ryan has been a passionate volunteer at a local RC racing club for several years. This club focuses on 1/8th scale nitro RC cars and boasts a specially designed track. Ryan's journey with the club began at the age of 16 when he was an active participant, racing his own RC car. As time went on, he transitioned into a volunteer role, contributing to the track's construction, layout, and managing the computer and timing systems.
Every year, Ryan and the dedicated team at the RC racing club come together to revamp the track, ensuring it is in top condition for the racing season. We are thrilled to share action shots of Ryan operating a 3-tonne roller and working alongside his fellow volunteers to rebuild the track. Through his volunteer work, Ryan has not only gained valuable skills but has also formed great friendships.
Katie Boxing Treasurer - Katie has been actively involved with Hillcrest Amateur Boxing Club since 2015. Starting as a participant in the women's sessions, Katie's passion for boxing led her to take on the roles of coach and later treasurer. Hillcrest Amateur Boxing Club is a non-profit community organization that offers boxing sessions in Newhaven area.
Katie's dedication extends beyond financial management. She obtained her Level One Boxing Coaching Qualification from England Boxing and went on to coach Saturday Women's sessions. Katie's commitment, along with the support of other volunteers and local sponsorships, ensures the club's continued positive impact within the community.
Andy - We are immensely proud of the compassion and dedication displayed by Andy, who serves as a volunteer responder for the National Health Service (NHS), providing vital transportation services to vulnerable individuals. This role became even more crucial during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Andy selflessly offered his support during evenings and weekends, assisting with tasks such as shopping for those in need and accompanying them to appointments or hospital visits.
Andy's volunteer work with the NHS exemplifies the core values of community and compassion that Birchwood holds dear. Through his efforts, he played a pivotal role in improving the well-being of the most vulnerable members of society.
St Wilfrid's are one of our chosen charity's here at Birchwood, as a local hospice that provide support to adults in any stage of their condition we think it's an amazing cause and are proud to help out where we can. Recently our Birchwood team headed down to help out at 2023 St Wilfrid's Rainbow Run, which involved runners completing a 3km route while being covered in paint (coloured cornstarch). We paid to sponsor the purple paint throwing station which helped to raise money as well as every runner paying an entry fee that went to the hospice.
It's safe to say we had a lot of fun and we can't wait to get involved with more of their exciting events! If you would like to get involved in future events or would like to learn more about St Wilfrid's Hospice then please tap the button below:
