Goodwood Festival Competition Roundup

If you have seen or taken part in one of Birchwood’s competitions in the past, you will know what fantastic prizes we offer to our winners. Our latest competition did not disappoint. Three lucky winners, who entered via our Facebook competition link, won tickets to the incredible Goodwood Festival of Speed.

For those that have never been before, the Festival of Speed is a three-day celebration of every aspect of motoring; it allows visitors to get up close and personal with iconic drivers, cars, bikes and much more. Probably most well-known for its rubber-churning hill climb, the festival is packed full of live action events including a display of drift cars and super stunt driving.

This year was themed around “Speed Kings – Motorsport’s Record Breakers”. Focusing on outstanding achievements in racing, it was a thrill-seekers’ paradise, with land speed record cars and some of the fastest racetrack monsters in attendance. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet some legends too - from F1 to MotoGP, some of the biggest racing names are present and available for big and little kids who want to meet their heroes!

There are so many display areas to explore including an F1 Paddock, a Michelin Supercar Paddock, and perhaps most excitingly for Birchwood, the FOS Future Lab. This gives visitors an advance glance into some of the awe-inspiring technology that will soon become part of the motoring and wider world. It’s an immersive experience that lets you take a look at cutting-edge technology in a fun, interactive way, showing snippets of ingenuity that will make you want to stay for hours.

Back outside there are some incredible vehicles in action and on display. Of course, at Birchwood we are always drawn to the Ford stand, and there we found the new Ford GT MKII model making its debut. This stunning piece of engineering won its class at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans and Festival of Speed visitors were able to get up close and personal with it. The new Ford Focus ST and Ford Puma SUV were also on display; vehicles which Birchwood showrooms are proudly offering to our own customers.

The event regularly busts some records and this year was no different. It was actually the 20th anniversary of Nick Heidfeld taking the hill climb record in the McLaren MP4/13. He covered the 1.16-mile course in just 41.6 seconds. But that was smashed this year by Volkswagen’s all-electric I.D. R Pikes Peak racer, with a staggering time of just 39.9 seconds.

We hope that our competition winners, Grace, Chris and James, got to witness the new record but even if they didn’t, we guarantee they would have been enjoying something equally as thrilling.
