Birchwood sponsors Care for the Carers walk
We at Birchwood Group are delighted to be sponsoring a 100-mile walk this May, in aid of the charity, Care for the Carers. The organisation’s Director of Service, Jo Egan, and her partner Tim Caceres, are walking the South Downs Way, from Winchester to Eastbourne, between the 25th and 27th May.
We’re delighted to have sponsored the couple £400 and have arranged printed T-shirts for the walk, which marks the charity’s 30th anniversary.
Care for the Carers is an independent charity and has been supporting and representing unpaid carers in East Sussex since 1989. The team provides practical and emotional advice to those who are caring for others alone. They also run nationwide support groups and training events.
Jo was inspired to join the organisation following her experience as a teenager caring for her mum, who had mental and physical health problems. She says:
“Dealing with mum’s agoraphobia and poor mobility was tough, but it was nothing compared to the challenges faced by the carers our team speaks to every day. They come to us isolated, unsupported, at breaking point and not knowing where to turn…The funds we raise will help Care for the Carers to reach more carers and to make a difference to more carers’ lives.”
