The fun of driving is as safe and efficient as you need it to be in the Kia Soul. The second-generation model proves that practicality doesn't have to be boring. Get around in this city crossover in style – and with complete ease.
Kia has given the Soul a striking appearance that makes a lasting impression. It has a chunky, strong shape with pronounced wheel arches. Multi-focus reflector headlights add to the front face, with rear fog lights illuminating the path behind you. Glossy black and chrome trims pick out the main body details, such as the front grille, bumpers and A-pillars. The flat roof can be chosen in a contrasting colour, as can the door mirror caps on the Mixx trim level.
Convenience is the clear theme on the inside. The 'day and night' rear view mirror reduces glare from the headlights of the vehicle behind. All except the entry-level model have an additional rear view camera. Drivers can feel the comfort of soft leather covering the steering wheel, and this features on the gearstick at higher trims.
Within the Soul, it is easy to relax and find storage space for essentials. The luggage volume is as much as 994 litres after folding the rear seats. A load cover and net hooks ensure everything stays in place in the boot. All doors have pockets, as do the front seats. Cup holders feature at the centre console, and handy glovebox lighting makes it easier to find items.
The exclusive equipment levels for the Soul are Start, Connect, Connect Plus, Mixx and Maxx. One petrol engine and one diesel engine are offered, both 1.6-litre versions with 130bhp and 134bhp respectively. Maximum torque is produced before you reach 5,000rpm, adding force to the car's power quickly.
Peak fuel economy from the car depends on the wheels fitted and the transmissions. On 17-inch or 18-inch alloys, you can expect as much as 58.8mpg combined from the diesel engine with six-speed manual gearbox.
Your security is assured in the Soul, and it keeps itself just as protected once you park. Every safety feature Kia has developed for the car is standard across the range. Rely on the support of twin front, side and curtain airbags, grippy Hill-Start Assist Control, ABS with Brake Assist and intelligent Vehicle Stability Management. After locking up, deadlocks and an engine immobiliser activate.
From Connect Plus upwards, an eight-inch touchscreen provides navigation to simplify getting from A to B. Music is always available through the DAB digital radio and CD player, as well as from the Bluetooth® connection in all except Start. At least six speakers broadcast crisp sound, and you can link mobile devices through the USB or AUX ports.
