The Kia Picanto builds on the success of its popular predecessor, adding new styling, greater customisation and enhanced equipment, but retaining its affordable price tag.
Swept-back headlamps flank the sleek, chrome-trimmed grille beneath the smooth, gentle incline of the bonnet. All models above the entry level edition have alloy wheels, increasing in size with the trim levels. Tinted glass is fitted as standard, with higher trims having privacy glass in the rear windows and tailgate. Colours available to choose from include Chilli Red and Breeze Blue. The Picanto has more boot space than most of its competitors and it has a wide opening for easier loading. 60:40 split folding rear seats allow the boot space to be expanded when you need to carry bulky items.
The Kia Picanto is available in the following trim levels: 1, 2, 3, GT-Line and GT-Line S. Choose one of the GT-Line editions if you are looking for sportier styling, including 16-inch alloys, sports bumpers at the front and rear, twin exhaust pipes, sporty red and black interior upholstery and stainless-steel pedals. The GT-Line S adds a little extra luxury with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
The Picanto offers excellent visibility thanks to the wide windscreen and slimline pillars, and rear-parking sensors and a reversing camera make parking easier if you opt for the 3 or GT-Line S editions. USB and AUX ports are fitted on all editions of the Picanto. Trims 1, 2 and GT-Line have Bluetooth connectivity with music streaming, while trim 3 and GT-Line S add voice recognition functionality.
Engine choices for the new Kia Picanto include a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, available in two versions – naturally aspirated or turbocharged, with five-speed manual transmission. There is also a 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine which is available with either a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed automatic.
Fuel efficiency ranges from 52.3mpg to 64.2mpg, while the lowest CO2 emissions are 101g/km, and the highest are 124g/km.
Electronic stability control, ABS, hill-start assist and six airbags are provided on all models in the new Kia Picanto range. Rear child safety locks, ISOFIX child car seat attachments and seat belt reminder warning feature are fitted across the range, to keep your younger passengers protected. All versions of the new Picanto also have an anti-theft alarm and immobiliser.
The Kia Picanto was named Most Dependable City Car in the 2016 JD Power survey. It has previously won Most Popular Small Hatchback in the Honest John awards.
