The elegant, spacious Optima from Kia makes the perfect choice for a large family car, but also works well as a sophisticated executive saloon. With luxury finishes in the cabin and high levels of equipment, the Optima is a strong competitor to rivals such as the Volkswagen Passat, and all at an affordable price.
The Optima’s sleek design oozes luxury and refinement. Kia’s signature metallic-trimmed grille extends all the way across to the slimline swept-back headlights. Alloy wheels, chrome roofline trims and twin chrome-tipped exhaust pipes add to the look of sophistication. You have a choice of three stylish colours – Midnight Black, Satin Silver and Temptation Red. The interior is equally smart, with superior quality black upholstery and premium finishes.
There are just three trim levels to choose from for the Kia Optima – 2, 3 and GT-Line S. All have an impressive equipment list, including features such as front and rear parking sensors and reversing camera. Opting for the GT-Line S adds several exclusive features such as smart key entry and stop/start technology, alloy pedals, and a smart park assist system.
Technology and comfort
Trim 3 features heated front seats, while on the GT-Line S, passengers in the outer rear positions also get heated seats.Ventilation in the front seats ofthe GT-Line S help to keep you cool in summer, aided by the dual-zone automatic air conditioning with ioniser, which is fitted as standard on all models. DAB radio and a shark fin antenna are provided across the Optima range, as is the Kia Connected service with TomTom.
Performance, engines, economy and efficiency
Beneath the bonnet you will find a 1.7-litre CRDi four-cylinder engine with 139bhp output. The Optima is available with six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission. The manual engine accelerates from 0-60mph in just under 10 seconds, yields up to 76.3mpg, depending on the size of the wheels, and has CO2 emissions as low as 110g/km.
Safety and security
A wealth of safety features makes this the ideal choice for safety-conscious families. Hill-start assist control, emergency brake signalling and tyre pressure monitoring are fitted on all models. Lane keep assist and speed limit information function are added on the 3 and GT-Line S trims, while autonomous emergency braking is an extra feature just for the GT-Line S edition.
The Kia Optima has won numerous awards in the US, including Road and Travel Magazine’s International Car of the Year twice in four years, most recently in 2016. The Optima is also a previous winner of the Red Dot design award.
