Kia Launches an Updated Version of Popular Executive Car

Kia has updated the Optima four-door saloon for the 2016 model year.

The Optima first entered the Kia range in 2000, and this 2016 version is the fourth-generation edition. It has always been admired for its impressively powerful engine range and premium looks. Inviting luxury and intelligent in-car systems make the saloon a consistently popular choice with fleet managers and company car drivers.

A bold new design language gives the latest Optima smart, futuristic looks. The change is more than a simple facelift for the model – the exterior appearance is completely new. Kia is aiming to attract more business motorists seeking a car that enhances their professional appearance.

Wraparound headlights and a more prominent front bumper are the first signs of this overhaul. Clusters of three LED daytime running lights shine out from either side of the front lower air intake. Front parking and reversing sensors have also been built into the design, with a reversing camera displayed on the interior navigation screen. All of these elements combine for a saloon which is both highly functional and styled to perfection.

Updates to the Kia Optima

The Optima is built on an enlarged chassis, meaning more passenger room and storage space inside. Extensive use of high-strength steel makes the saloon's shell even safer. It is now 50 percent more rigid, increasing protection against the force of an impact.

Interior quality has been increased, as has head and leg room. Kia has worked hard to create a relaxed, stress-free driving environment within the Optima. This is reflected in the inclusion of sliding and reclining front seats and leather-trimmed driver controls.

The dashboard is split into two areas – the upper 'display' zone and the lower 'control' zone. Separating the visual and functional elements has arranged the dials, buttons and gauges more logically for the driver's benefit.

As a new addition for 2016, drivers now have the option of the Premium Package. This adds heated and ventilated seats to the saloon, as well as an eight-inch central touchscreen and a panoramic sunroof.

The safety specification at every equipment level will uphold the five-star Euro NCAP rating that the Optima received in 2015. It continues to arrive equipped with twin front, side and curtain airbags, as well as with ABS, Vehicle Stability Management, Hill-Start Assist Control and an advanced anti-theft system.

One engine now confidently powers the saloon, a 1.7-litre diesel with 139bhp. It delivers the full 340Nm of torque by only 2,500rpm, pushing confidently into corners and maintaining a strong grip on the tarmac. The Optima's 0-60mph time is never more than 11 seconds, on the way to a 126mph top speed.

As much as 67.3mpg combined from the all-new Optima ensures it performs reliably on regular and long-distance journeys. Intelligent Stop & Go is integrated with the engine, conserving power by turning it off at a standstill or when idling in traffic.

On top of these wide-ranging features, the top-of-the-range '4' model is now one of the highlights of the Kia line-up. It is available with automatic headlight beam adjustment, instantly adapting to the road, cornering, and amount of traffic ahead. Another innovation in the all-new Optima is wireless device charging. Simply place your mobile onto the centre console, with no need for wires or cables, and charging will begin.

There is certainly plenty to enjoy about the Optima, and with an all new model being launched, there's going to be plenty of approved used Kia Optimas for sale.
