What Happens if an EV Battery Degrades?
Like all rechargeable batteries, electric vehicle batteries gradually lose a small amount of capacity over time. This is a normal part of battery ageing and happens slowly over many years of use.
To provide reassurance, most manufacturers include a dedicated EV battery warranty, typically covering 8 years or around 100,000 miles.
These warranties usually guarantee that the battery will maintain a minimum level of performance, commonly around 70% of its original capacity. If the battery falls below this level during the warranty period, the manufacturer will repair or replace it in line with their warranty terms.
In real-world use, many EV batteries continue to perform well beyond the warranty period, with gradual and manageable changes in range over time.
